Foundation Date:

On April 1, 1946, the Budapest Capital City Sewage Works, the predecessor of today's Budapest Sewage Works Company Limited was established.

Date of transformation into a company limited by shares: December 1, 1993.

The gratest owner of the Budapest Sewage Works Ltd. is the Municipality of Budapest. During the privatisation of the public utility companies, the General Assembly of Budapest transferred a share package representing 25% of the share capital of the company + 1 vote to the consortium made up of Berliner Wasser Betriebe (B.W.B.) and Compagnie Générale des Eaux (C.G.E.). The contract did not tie the profit interest of the new partners to the increase of turnover or the increases in price but – in a unique manner in the Hungarian practice – to the increase of the effectiveness of the company and the decrease in the costs. The contract signed on November 19, 1997 also stipulated the transfer of defined operating and professional management rights. Using the opportunity fixed in the Share Purchase Agreement, C.G.E. and B.W.B. established the Sewage Operating Holding Company at the end of 1998. On June 6, 2000, B.W.B. transferred the proprietary rights of its shares to Berlinwasser Holding AG. In the meantime, the name of C.G.E. changed and it transferred its shares to Vivendi Environnement on March 26, 2002, whose new name became Vivendi Environnement S.A.

The rights of the French owner are exercised by Veolia Víz Zrt.
